Bamboo Garden Links
The CLS is affiliated with a GBG workshop in Seattle called
the Bamboo Garden (after the hermitage where Joseph Knecht studied
the I Ching in The Glass Bead Game, the novel). Since the
GBG is in some sense a Platonic ideal to which we can never quite
attain, each of us in the Bamboo Garden has our own version/vision
of the Game.
- Karl Erickson is an occasional member of the Bamboo
Garden. At his home page, idioverse,
you can see much glassbeadgameryish stuff. Eventually he plans
to put up the first part of his GBG variant, MemeStruck, geometrical
modelling software that allows semantic tags, thereby forming
interactive sculptures out of information.
- Ron Hale-Evans is a founding member of the Bamboo
Garden and the founder of the Center for Ludic Synergy. His GBG
is called Kennexions.
Ron has a personal
home page too.
- Mark Line, another founding Bamboo Gardener, has a
page devoted to his Waldzell
Institute. You can find out about his Waldzell gbg here,
read archives of GBG-List,
and even join the list if you're a fanatical GBGer.
- Gail Sullivan is a founding member of the Bamboo Garden.
Her "Glass
Bead Game Central" is the single best place to find
out about Hesse's Glasperlenspiel on the Web. It includes
a detailed explanation of her own "Bliss-Member" gbg
as well as an introduction to several other gameforms, including
those of other members of the Bamboo Garden. (Gail's page
is down as of this writing, 23 September 1999. Gail is presently
very active in Y2K preparations for her area. We hope that come
the New Year, she will have more time to devote to the GBG.)
COMING SOON: Links to the homepages of CLS members.
Other GBG Links
- Magister-L
... The original Glass Bead Game mailing list. Actually devoted
to the intersection of games and spirituality in general, but
discussion usually centers around the GBG.
Related
- The Elephant's
Memory ... A glyphic constructed language similar to Blissymbolics/Semantography,
(which latter is the basis for Kennexions's glyphic conlang).
Not much here, but the glyphs are extraordinarily beautiful.
Definitely worth a look.
- Notational
Engineering Laboratory ... These folks think it's all in
the notation. Haven't seen a link to them on any other GBG page,
but the material here is quite germane.
